A Handshake With Indian Culture
|
Returning to their beloved land from BC 3000, where would a Greek, Babylonian, Mesopataniam or Indian feel most at home? Most certainly, he would in that ancient land that is Bharat, that is India.
Bharat's ancient culture, with the oldest scriptures on earth (the Vedas, Darshans and Upanishads), its philosophies and moral guidance have done well to protect all that is Bharat.
Bharat's ancient Sanskrit language is acknowledged as the mother of all Indo-European languages. Bharat's contribution to mathematics and geometry is well documented in the Hindu Sulbasutras Scriptures. And it was the great astronomers of Bharat that propounded the theory that the earth was a sphere. Aryabhatta propounded this theory in the 5th century while Brahmagupta estimated in the 7th century that the circumference of the earth was 5000 yojanas. (one yojana is around 7.2 kms) which comes almost exactly to modern day calculations.
Bharat's culture, at its heart, is deep rooted in a tolerance of difference. Its scriptures, unlike Semitic dogma, do not make the "truth" statement as being the only true religion. Rather, they teach that knowledge continues to come with the development of the human race
It is not by chance therefore that a people with so much to contribute to the world is called Bharat.
The root of the word Bharat is Sanskrit and comes from Bha connoting Light or Knowledge and Rat (pronounced Rhaat) meaning "that which carries". Bharat is therefore the land from which both material and spiritual knowledge has been carried to the rest of the world.
Thank-you for your interest and …………Namaste
